Successful Virtual Doctor Scheme in Southland

Consultations in an Invercargill Practice are being conducted via webcam. It’s called an overflow clinic; in the instance where a patient needs to see their GP that day but cannot, they are referred on to the overflow clinic for a same day consult.

The Doctor can dial in from anywhere using a Wi-Fi connection and a laptop, and has a nurse on hand with the patient. The feedback from both clinicians and patients has been positive, the four-month trial will continue with potential to be brought to practices nationwide.
